French illustrator and painter.
Autograph Letter Signed, G. Dore, one full page, octavo, January 28, n.y. “On the request which M. Duvillier had addressed to you on the subject of the letter you mention, I asked him to show it to me and regret very much that in spite of my most sincere desire to oblige you, I cannot consent to the publication of this letter, which contains pleasantries which cannot be revealed to the public without exposing oneself to ridicule. I suspect that my friend Duvillier’s memory of it is no more fresh than my own. Please believe…in the very sincere regrets that I don’t know how I can fulfill your wish….” In a postscript he adds, “If it were agreeable to you to have the sketches, enabling one or two pages to be composed and reproducible by the preceding, I will gladly place everything at your disposal.” Fine condition.
