Autograph Document Signed, one page, 4 1/2 inches wide by 6 3/4 inches high, August 7, 1778. “Recd. of Sir Thomas Clarges sixty-five guineas in full for a portrait of Lady Clarges and a frame.” Blank upper corner is torn away, not affecting the text; otherwise fine.
Louisa, Lady Clarges was a talented harpist. She and her husband, Sir Thomas, patronized many of the leading professional musicians of the day. Thomas Gainsborough painted a portrait of her with her harp in 1778. The painting is now in the Holburne Museum in Bath.
Elegantly framed in beige silk and antiqued gilt, with a portrait. Framed dimensions: 20 inches wide by 12 inches high.
