J.D. Salinger, the reclusive author of Catcher in the Rye, did not respond to letters and carried on very few correspondences with friends. His letters are very rare; those that have come onto the market are rarely dull or uninteresting – he didn’t write letters unless he had something to say. Those that have come onto the market realize high prices.
