Autograph Letter Signed, one page, quarto, Mansion House, September 29, 1939. To John Jacob Werner Esquire in Philadelphia.
“I hear that our friend Bolton sails for the Mediterranean to day, and as he has one of the finest frigates in the service, I trust he will not only have a pleasant passage, but an agreeable cruise. Did he think of the letters you desired to possess, before he sailed? – If not I have one of the sort you mentioned, which is perfectly at your service, and I write merely to say so. As you think of traveling, I suppose you will meet somewhere in Italy next year, and where I sincerely wish I might also hope to fall in with you both.”
