Very fine signed photograph of Shaw in his study, speaking with a gentleman. On the lower mount he writes: “This is my celebrated performance as a genial and charming old man./ ‘Blessings on his kindly voice and on his silver hair.’/ And Hoppe pretending to be taken in.” Signed with initials. The black and white photograph measures 8 inches wide by 10 inches high.
Emil Otto Hoppe, a German-born photographer working in London, took photographs of many famous personalities of the era, including some well-known ones of George Bernard Shaw.
Matted in vanilla and housed in a mahogany and gilt frame, measuring 14 1/2 inches wide by 17 1/4 inches high.
