Pen and ink sketches, unsigned, two pages, octavo, [n.d.]. William Makepeace Thackeray has drawn three profile heads of a man wearing a top hat; a cat; two Egyptian pyramids with a fierce, crouching lion in the foreground; a begging dog; a crowing rooster; and a mouse. On the verso, he has sketched a paddle-wheel steamship, filled with passengers, churning along in rough water; a poodle; and a scene at a restaurant or club showing people seated at two tables, a waiter pouring tea or coffee, people serving themselves at a buffet, and several gentlemen standing in a group. Fine condition.
Matted in ecru and claret with a steel-engraved portrait. In an antique gilt frame measuring 19 1/2 inches wide by 11 1/2 inches high.
