Actress; starred in The Blue Angel.
Typewritten Letter Signed, Marlene Dietrich, two pages, quarto, Paris, April 23, 1987. With the word “COPIE” stamped in orange in the top right corner of the first page, and a phone number handwritten on the top left corner of the first page. Addressed from Marlene Dietrich to Mr. Harold B. Stern in New York; copied to Mr. Saul Katz in New York. With three words underlined in blue ink. With the original envelope addressed to Mr. Katz, which contains Marlene Dietrich’s handwritten notes regarding a flight.
“I received your letter dated April 6, 1987, and I just have to follow your advice regarding the income for 1986 (All Star International Productions and Promotions Ltd.).
“Now I have another problem, and I hope you can help me. Last year my daughter’s handbag was stolen and with it her VISA credit card, which is on my name. I received a letter dated August 8, 1986 from a supervisor called Josette Canonico asking for payment of $506.90, which I did immediately. Then I received a statement dated February 4, 1987 (copy enclosed) informing me that the number of my VISA credit card had been changed.
“I am also enclosing a copy of a letter from my bookstore in New York, which sadly enough closed its doors, to whom I had given the new VISA credit card number so I could pay the last bill due to the 999 Bookstore in N.Y. I am telling you all this because I do not know why (1) I did not receive any new credit card with the new number (because here you have to show the actual card), no (2) why the VISA people refused to pay Mr. Saul Katz, who is no longer employed but who feels still responsible for the unpaid bill. I hate to disappoint Mr. Saul Katz, who has been my contact for so many years. In your last report of Dietrich Inc. you show a balance of $906.02, so maybe you can pay Mr. Katz – because all the books were for professional use.
“Also enclosed are copies of my cables sent to VISA which I have not had any answer, as well as not to any of my letters. The only explanation I have is that there are so many addresses for the VISA credit card that their right hand doesn’t know what their left hand is doing.
“I also want you to know that my daughter does not use the VISA card, and I have not used it since October, 1986 when I used it only to pay the pharmacy here for my medications. That was six months ago, and I am really at a loss to understand their refusal to send me a new card-all the while telling me the new number of the card, which is no use to me here.
“I hope you can help me with all this. There is no hurry with this, because I am not buying anything but, as you know me, I like things to be in order.
“Please let me know when you have paid Mr. Katz.”
