British rock n’ roll singers.
Signatures, on one page in an octavo notebook belonging to a girl named Nicola, [1967]. Inscribed “McCartney loves Nicola (true)“, the inscription annotated by McCartney’s sketch of three flowers. Ringo Starr signs “love Ringo Starr” and John Lennon signs it twice, with the second signature partly deleted. George Harrison signs on a later page, “To Nicola / love from / Uncle George Harrison“. The signatures were collected during the Beatles’ “Magical Mystery Tour“, a television movie featuring the Beatles taking a bus ride across the United States.
The film was Paul McCartney’s idea. It was to be unscripted; various “ordinary” people were to travel in coach and have unspecified “magical” adventures. The sound track was more favorably received than the film.
“Beatlemania” was fueled by excited, screaming fans like Nicola who was especially fortunate in that she was able to come into close enough contact with the Beatles so as to get them all to sign her autograph book, even sweetly including her name and flowers. All must have been in great spirits.
