FRENCH COMPOSER OF “SYMPHONIE FANTASTIQUE”
Autograph Musical Quotation, written on the back flap of an envelop addressed to Monsieur Alizard. Together with an Autograph Inscription Signed, two lines on one page, octavo, [Paris], December 15, 1838, to the violinist Alexandre-Jean Boucher; with the integral address leaf attached.
In his Autograph Musical Quotation, Hector Berlioz writes two measures from the Grande symphonie funËbre et triomphale, which he had originally composed in 1840 for large military band to be performed out of doors.
In his inscription to Boucher, Hector Berlioz writes, “From M. Berlioz with his compliments.” Boucher was a violinist, whose showmanship, over and above his virtuosity, dominated his performances.
