Franklin D Roosevelt signs a “Return Receipt” acknowledging that the candidate’s name is correctly placed on the ballot: “To Burt E. Burnett, County Clerk for the County of Jackson / I hereby acknowledge receipt by registered mail, of proof copy of ballot containing my name as candidate for the office of President of the U.S. of the Democratic Party, for use at the General Election to be held on the 8th day of Nov., 1932, and I hereby certify that my name is correctly placed on said ballot.”
Franklin D Roosevelt signs and returns this document on the eve of the first of four presidential elections. On November 8, he defeated incumbent Herbert Hoover in a landslide victory.
