Signature and top portion of a document, 21-1/2 by 2 inches, on vellum. Edward VI, the long-awaited male heir of Henry VIII and his third wife Jane Seymour, was a delicate child who ascended the throne at the age of ten and ruled through a regency until his death six years later. He was a staunch Protestant, and as head of the Anglican Church, he authorized publication of the Forty-Two Articles of the Church of England in Latin and English, and the First Prayer Book which Thomas Cranmer compiled.
